RSC, short for Regular Slotted Container, is a type of corrugated box that has four flaps on the top and bottom that meet when closed and is commonly used in the moving industry.
It is a type of Slotted Container. These trusty boxes require a bit of tape on the top and at the bottom to make sure everything inside stays safe and sound.
Features of an RSC Box
RSC is the most widely used design for corrugated boxes. Its advantage lies in its minimal waste generation, thus being inexpensive and at the same time strong.
A distinctive feature of the RSC Box is its straight-line cuts and its symmetrical flaps, each having a length equal to half of the box's breadth.
When the box is sealed, the flaps along the longer sides come together neatly at the centre. However, the flaps on the shorter sides do not meet in the centre. The flaps that meet at the centre are always sealed second.
How is an RSC Box manufactured?
The RSC Box similar to the other Slotted Containers is crafted using a specialised machine called the Flexo Folder-Gluer. This machine integrates five key operations: Printing, Scoring, Slotting, Folding, and Gluing, which collectively bring the RSC Box to file.
You may watch the short 1-minute video below to gain a clearer understanding of the RSC Box manufacturing process.
In short, what’s good about the RSC Box is its simplicity. The straight-line cuts and scores enabling a swift process that eliminates any need for extensive tooling. This approach proves to be both quicker and more cost-effective than another familiar alternative known as die-cutting.
What is a Die-cut Box?
Die-cut Box is a cardboard box made with custom and complex cuts to achieve a particular design.
If a customer wants a custom box for his growing e-commerce business, he is looking for a mailer die-cut box.
If a customer wants a custom box to package his wine, he is looking for a wine die-cut box.
The applications of die-cut boxes are wide due and depend on the amount of customisation needed.
Why is it called Die-cut Box?
The Die-Cut Box, akin to its relative among corrugated boxes, the Slotted Container, bears its name from the machine responsible for its creation: the Die-cutter.
The machine allows more complex and unusual cuts to the box making the box much more customisable to particular needs.
Due to its greater customisability, there are many applications it can be used for, such as a wine die-cut box, food die-cut box, mailer die-cut box for e-commerce and much more.
Features of a Die-cut Box
Die-cutting finds extensive application in various industries, notably in e-commerce, where companies strive to have their boxes of a distinct identity. One notable advantage is that these boxes often require no tape for assembly.
A distinctive feature of a Die-cut Box is its angular, circular and sometimes unusual cuts. This can be seen from the illustration below.
Die-cut boxes also have special features such as hand holes which are common in document boxes.
How are Die-Cut Boxes manufactured?
The process involves mounting box blanks onto a wooden frame, which is then rotated in a circular and continuous motion. During this motion, precise cuts and creases are introduced, and the Die-cut Box is brought to life.
It's important to note that Die-Cut Boxes tend to be pricier compared to the standard RSC Boxes, primarily due to their intricate and more complex cuts.
You may watch the short 1-minute video below to gain a clearer understanding of the Die-Cut manufacturing process.
In short, what’s good about the Die-cut Box is its remarkable customisation potential which is made possible by the Die-cutter machine’s ability to incorporate complicated cuts, tailoring each box to its intended purpose.

Generally, for shipping, it will be great to have at least a double wall corrugated shipping boxes. A double wall corrugated box is stronger and carries heavy weight than the single wall type.
It is really important to test out if the shipping box can carry the items you are shipping. Check with the manufacturer the weight load specification before purchasing them.

In general, these corrugated shipping boxes could carry about 20 to 30kg weight load. If your item has some hard and heavy object, it would be good if you could add on a piece of corrugated paper on the base and top of the boxes while shipping.
At Shipping box Singapore we provide you with free corrugated paper sheets, for your heavy stuff.
Often when you purchase these shipping boxes, they come in a flatten boxes, you will need to reassemble them and tape or seal up the bottoms cartons. If your items are extremely heavy, you may need to cut a piece of corrugated carton sheets with the exact same size with the bottom of the carton box. An added corrugated sheet will enhance cushioning and prevent your items from hitting the ground during transportation.
Pack the Carton Box Correctly
When you buy shipping boxes, choose the right size that you need. For different items, there are a variety of boxes available. While getting the box packed double check that the heavy item is placed right at the bottom and the delicate items at the top. Be sure to use sufficient bubble wrap while getting the goods packed.
Items that you need to prepare are masking tape, or OPP tapes, cutters or penknife. Using the masking tape with a penknife cutter is generally good enough, but if you have a lot of shipping box to pack, it would be good to have a hand-held tape dispenser. All tapes have different adhesive properties. Your application will determine which tape to choose.
If the items going into your boxes are heavy, use several overlapping strips of tape to ensure that the bottom will remain closed during the complete trip.
Fragile Items in the Box
If your items are fragile, wrap in paper or bubble wrap and place in the box. Bubble wrap is an inexpensive material to use because it weighs less. If there are any gaps, fill them with loose fill, or the Styrofoam packing material or other cushioning material to ensure the items do not shift during transportation. Loose fill is a lightweight alternative that saves on shipping and is available in anti-static for electronic parts and products.
Label the Shipping Box
Finally, address or label the shipping box is important. If shipping the box through the mail or another carrier, address according to preset standards. If this is a box that you are using for moving, using a different color for each room allows for easy sorting, identifying the box with what is inside, once again saving time at the destination.

They may direct you to a designated area where you can pick up the boxes.
Our Recommendation
One final tip for selecting your boxes, please pay attention to the number of layers of wall the box has.
In general, a single-wall box is able to hold up to 10kg of items while a double-wall box is able to hold up to 30kg of items.
Types of Corrugated Box Wall and its Respective Strength
We recommend double wall boxes for all moving purposes as they are sturdy and durable enough to handle the weight of most household items and can last for multiple trips.
A double-wall corrugated box is going to be harder to find than a single-wall one.
When looking for free used carton boxes in Singapore, you have to keep in mind that used free boxes may also not be in the best physical condition.
While they can still serve their purpose of packing household items, it is important to inspect them for any contamination, damages or weaknesses before use.
Although free used carton boxes are what you came for, we recommend a mix of both new and used boxes.
You can use your new boxes for your higher-value items, while you can use your free boxes for your lower-value items. You can get new boxes at affordable prices here.

Place all small and miscellaneous items together, like small objects and tools should be kept together based on where they belong. For example, you can pack a box of stationery supplies with pens, paperweights, staplers, and paper clips tossed in together.
Don't pack furniture and major appliance in the cartons. They should be wrapped in padded moving blankets. The oversize object should be wrap using bubble wrap, corrugated paper and final wrap using a plastic stretch wrap. If you hired a mover, they may do this for you.
Take Care of Fragile Items
Fragile items should be wrap using bubble wrap and put in a smaller moving box. Loose fill may be used to fill up the entire lose space to protect the fragile items from moving during transportation. The smaller fragile item should be placed on top and the heavy items at the bottom. If the overall weight is going to be heavy, it is advisable to put additional corrugated sheet at the bottom of the box as a cushioning base. Lastly, remember to label the word "Fragile" on all four sides of the box.
Don't overstuff boxes with fragile items. When you are done packing each box, close the top. Seal the top and the bottom along the openings and seams with packing tape.
